Margaret Thatcher makes her famous ‘No! No! No!’ speech to the House of Commons after attending the European Council summit in Rome on 27 and 28 October 1990.
In it she makes clear abandoning pound sterling would not be in Britain’s interests, that Labour would gladly hand economic power to Brussels because of its incompetence and that “President of the Commission, Mr. Delors, said at a press conference the other day that he wanted the European Parliament to be the democratic body of the Community, he wanted the Commission to be the Executive and he wanted the Council of Ministers to be the Senate. No. No. No.”
